Thank You For Being My Glue

On one side of the blogging coin, there's all of the awesomeness that comes with blogging: motivating people, inspiring someone to make change, having an outlet to talk about everything that I love (food, CrossFit, eating, CrossFit, working out, Spin, CrossFit .. did I say CrossFit?).

But on the other side of the coin, there's the not-so-awesome: the haters. As my blog has grown in popularity a wee bit, I've had a pretty hefty showering of negative readership. I know this is not uncommon in the blog world, but that doesn't make it any easier to read the rude comments (thank goodness for the Comment Moderation option!)

Some of the most successful bloggers have written about their experienced with "energy vampires" ...

What's your take on them?
How do you handle the Negative Nancy's?

If this is something you're dealing with, I highly suggest reading this article from Positively Positive. My favorite words, "You cannot satisfy a vampire."

I'm usually a pretty upbeat, optimistic, positive person, but this last week I've taken some pretty rough blows. I have some very lame, very heavy, stuff happening in my personal life right now that is just that - personal, so as much as I live under a rock and believe I'm blogging into la-la-land where no one reads this stuff, it's become apparent that people actually do. I won't be airing out any dirty laundry here, sorry.

I'm grateful for my readers and this small corner of the blog world that I call my own; you guys mean a lot to me. I lean on my readers - you - a lot. Along with my friends and family, you are keeping me together. I can't fall apart, I can't have a mental breakdown, because there may be that one reader that reminds me how much I motivate and inspire them. And last time I checked, sobbing, lumpy messes were not found next to inspiring in the Dictionary.

I gotta keep it together. For you. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being my glue.

(I'd be lying if I didn't mention this guy, too. Oh my word, the love I have for this little 9 pound pile of mangy fur and hot dog breath is out.of.control.) Speaking of things that are out of control ...

My girl Melissa is CrossFit Mom of the Year over here!

1. Fill in the blank: You know you're a CrossFit mom when _____________

2. I'm in the mood to make some easy home-made protein bars for class this coming week.
Care to share your favorite recipe?

3. How do you handle Negative Nancy's/Energy Vamps?

Shout out to my girl Chris Tapia - #1 Petite Athleat Fan Club Member!

  1. How could anyone have anything negative to say to or about you?! You are the one blogger I follow who never seems to have anything negative to say but totally keeps it real too. Of all the blogs out there I would never expect anyone to ever say anything derogatory about you. I'm so sorry. I've been reading for months now and never commented until yesterday but you are definitely an inspiration. Don't let the energy vampires suck out your beautiful attitude or your light that you shine on the sometimes dismal and grey path to health and fitness. :D You rock!

  2. Made new protein bars last week with just a few things: vitamix a couple carrots, 2 cups egg whites, 6 scoops cinnamon protein powder, stevia, baking powder & spices, bake! Also did chocolate protein powder, bananas, egg whites & special dark cocoa powder :) mag! They travel awesome & are huge. I used a 13x9 pan & baked 45 min @ 350.
Also, in high school I would come home crying about mean girls & my mom would say "they are just jealous" & I would cry more & say why? I know now, at 30, being married, fit & totally happy, she was right! People are negative about others because of their own insecurities. Happy people don't care to spend their time "downing" others! Bring on the sunshine lady- you rock it!

  4. For what it's worth, I look forward to reading your blog everyday. I hate the days when you don't post, but I understand you also have a life outside of the blog. You are a true inspiration, both to work out daily and to step outside my comfort zone. You seem to jump at the opportunity to do both. Whatever is going on with you right now will pass and you will be stronger for having gone through it. If you need inspiration, just read your own favorite quotes that are posted on your blog. You got this...press on with your head held high. You are amazing, so don't forget that.

  6. Ignore the haters. The more you engage with them the more they react. (been there, done that)

You are a bad-ass CrossFit chick, I definitely look to you for inspiration! I'm sorry you're going through a tough time right now. Hopefully things start getting better for you!

  7. Let those haters hate and you keep staying STRONG, training hard, enjoying life, and leaning on your fur dog, friends, and family for all the support you need. When I have gone through rough times in my life, besides my Mom being my #1 supporter, my golden retriever is right up there too. They know us and love us and want us to be happy. XOXO Enjoy the weekend!

  8. I am just now starting a lifestyle blog- nutrition, life, pole fitness, etc. I can only imagine the negative nancies I'll hear from if my blog gets popular.

Keep your head up! I love your blog...and you could probably beat up anyone who says otherwise. ;)

    xoxo Lauren

  9. aw sweetie pie!! I'm sorry you're dealing with negative comments, too! I've been dealing with those for the entire time I've been blogging, but you know what!? TRASH is the EASIEST way to deal with them!!!!!!!! It's not worth our time even reading over their nasty words! We are better than that Courtney! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Be proud of who you are and love yourself for what you do, who you are, etc. Because I know I do :) hehe <3

  10. Could not enjoy your blog more, could not find you more inspirational.

Chin up. It's just a dark tunnel and you get through this same as everything, one foot at a time.

Vampires only hurt when you're already vulnerable. That may sound tone-deaf, but think of this this way: they don't have any actual power themselves, they can only exploit your chinks. When you are hale and well, they seem laughable. And they will seem laughable again.

  12. oh court, you're a doll and anyone who says otherwise has me to answer to, (as well as a million other people who think you're awesome in sauce form!)
glad you're not letting anyone bully you; know that you inspire -this girl- everyday.
also remember that feeling down isn't wrong, refusing to get back up -is-. Seeing you stay positive is the most role-model thing one can do. stay strong! keep squatting!

  13. 1. Not a mom so I don't know yet 2. Have you tried protein rice Krispy's? 3. Luckily, I am not a blogger so I don't have to deal with this. I found your blog about 6 months ago when I started crossfit and I am not a huge commenter but I do read your blog EVERY day, I love it. When I first started I used to tell myself I hope I can do/lift what you do, you are a great motivator to so many people. I hope you know that these people who say such mean things truly hate themselves and are just trying to dispel that negative energy on someone, anyone, else. They are the types who write in comments how ugly Kate Upton is and how horrible Mother Theresa was. I know it doesn't make the comments any easier but they don't speak the truth. Anyway rock on and I hope things start getting better soon.

  14. I haven't had to deal with any negative nancys....yet, *knock on wood* it doesn't happen. I'm really sorry your having to deal with them, plus some stuff in your personal life. Hope it all gets better, it's bound to anyways :)

  15. Tell the haters to suck it! And I'm sorry for whatever is going on personally but please don't go anywhere!! I plan on using your blog as motivation after I birth this currently gestating spawn LOL

As far as how I handle Negative Nancies, I cut them out of my life. Ain't nobody got time for that. Not quite as easy in the blogsphere though.

  16. Keep your head up! I've been a faithful reader for over a year now, & I appreciate your positivity and real-life-ness (is that a word?). I love that you never back down from a challenge :) Just know that your light shines too brightly to let a few storm clouds cover it up! Thank you for being a strong, motivating role model!

  17. You're awesome, and anyone who says different is a wee bit jealous!

  19. Courtney, I just wanted to say that your blog inspired me to venture out into the blog world. You are such an inspiration and a wonderful role model to many. I am not yet at the point where my blog is getting negative feedback, I only have about 30 followers thus fat, but I hope one day I'll be at your status. Even though you and I try and live our lives in the most positive way possible, there will ALWAYS be people trying to tear us down. It's one of those sad facts of life, but we must always remember that we are strong women and we are capable of anything!! Keep on trucking girl! I hope that things in your personal life begin to simmer down. Remember...we are here supporting you even if you don't know it.

  23. I tell myself that the negative people are not worth the real estate in my brain, and then I swiftly move on. I know it's easier said than done sometimes, and it's probably difficult or impossible to ignore altogether when the negativity comes to you on your blog. But they can suck it. I'm not one to always dismiss others as "jealous" but when it comes down to it, a lot of the stuff the haters say just sounds like sour grapes to me.

Your positivity is awesome! I firmly believe that you get what you put out there to the world. Keep it up, sistah!

  24. Well I love your blog and you inspire me to become a better crossfitter! Dont listen to others - jealousy will get them nowhere. Perhaps they should spend more time on bettering themselves. :)

  25. Courtney, who wouldn't be jealous of you...you are beautiful, smart, loving and a fantastic crossfitter! Women sometimes are jealous bitches when in fact, we should be lifting each other up. Keep doing what your are doing and try your best to ignore the negativity. Some people will always be unhappy and you just can't worry about them!

  26. That stinks that you are having to deal with negativity like that. Block it out! Your pup is too cute lying on you like that :) I love reading your blog. There are always going to be people out there set on ruining other people's accomplishments but don't let them get you down!! Keep being the fun, quirky, fit girl you are! As for haters, there are every where. Unfortunately there are idiots in the world and cruel people too. I don't let it get to me, it just lets them win. For me it's as simple as *delete*!
