Lazy Bones

I almost pulled another one of these today ...

I was sick yesterday, but this morning, while getting ready, drinking my coffee, mulling over the morning, I just was not feeling it. I laid down on my bedroom floor, looked up at the ceiling and thought, "Why?"

Curling back up with Elliott seemed so much more appealing than going through another morning in the gym alone.

And then I heard a knock on my door, "Hey! Let's go!" and standing there in her gym clothes, ready to rock and roll, was my incredible friend and room mate. I thought that little devil had to work this morning! But it's like the Lord knew exactly what I needed, and there she stood.

Needless to say, thanks to her intervention, the gym felt really good this morning. We each did our own workouts; we had our own things to work on.

Skill/warm-up:
hang power snatch (empty bar)
Snatch balance (empty bar)
OHS (empty bar)

Strength:
Every 2 minutes for 10 minutes
7 hang cleans (full squat)
3 strict press

Metcon:
3 RFT:
400m run with sandbag (25#)
25 steps walking lunge w/ sandbag (length of gym)
10 wallballs
15 medball toss situps
20 cycling box jump (18")
25 steps walking lunge w/ sandbag (length of the gym)

I'm still on the 18" box practicing stringing together lots of cycling box jumps. I got up to 18 in a row today, felt good. Have to be careful of my low back though, it's a little jarring. Anyone else experience this?

I'm loving this EMOM-type of strength workout I've been incorporating into my mornings pre-metcon. I got the idea from the programming I saw at CrossFit Central. Strict strength stuff has never been very exciting to me. 5-5-5 back squat? Snore. So, incorporating strength in a little different way has been really fun, because I know how important strength is.

I'm not saying I don't like focusing on strength, I do, I just like it to be a little faster paced. All that standing around between sets drives me bonkers. And because it's daunting, I don't do it as often as I should. Shame on me.

I had THE tastiest protein shake afterwards. I mixed my BCAA's (lemon lime flavor) in with my vanilla Pure Whey from SFH; it tasted like a Keylime Creamsicle! I'm excited to work out tomorrow morning, knowing this is waiting for me when I finish. Said like a true fattie foodie.

Stronger Faster Healthier - No hype.

Guess what's on its way into my chalky, ripped up hands? Oh yes, oh yes.

My last class of the week is tomorrow. School is kicking my butt! I see a strong NorCal 'rita in my near future.
1. What protein powder do you take?
2. Do you have a meton/cardio bias or the strength bias?
3. What motivates you to go to the gym?

  1. That's a beautiful lulu bag! I'm the most motivated just knowing that I will have a better day if I go in the early am --- I usually go at 5 -- gross!! Also, just knowing how expensive it is helps!!!

  2. That's so awesome how your friend inspired you to go work out. It does a body good!
I'm a Progenex girl. I mix tropical vanilla Recovery with loco mocha More Muscle (and yes, that's sometimes my entire motivation to work out, so I can drink that goodness afterward).
I do favor metcons, but strength feels damn good when things are clicking. If I'm doing sets, I like working with a partner who's at a similar strength point--taking turns, offering encouragement & cues during the down/rest time.
Endorphin craving motivates me. I want to get my heart rate up and get my sweat on.

  3. I'm on my 5th week back at school while working FT...its hard but manageable!! I let my training slip and that of course made life more difficult because I became tired way faster and grouchy. Back to my regular workout routine this week despite having an exam and intense migraine (brought on from TMJ...brought on from school/work stress :/ ). Actually added in more yoga for stress relief and it's been amazing! Add some yoga after your classes for the brain balance and keep it up! You'll do great!

  4. I really like BSN and BioX, but am always on the lookout for tasty PP. It's just that I can't afford to try them as much as I'd like :(

Can you do a blog post on pre/post workout fuel and supplements?

  5. No protien powder for me, it always seems to bother my stomach :( I love how good I feel after, so I always keep that in mind :)

  6. Vega sport (tummy cannot handle whey)
Lately i've been doing split circuits and finishing off with HIIT sprints 30/45 and LOVE it!
I just LOVE going! I'm a wife and mom, part time office assistant & current NASM student. My morning gym time is my ME time :)

  7. I looove Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate with a tablespoon of MCT oil right when I wake up which is also right before I workout. Another one, minus the oil, right after my workout. Trutein Cinnamon Bun powder right before bed for the immediate whey release, slow release of casein, and mid release from the egg white

I prefer strength training. It's how I was introduced to building muscle, the good 'ole fashioned body recomposition way.

I've lost 80lbs since last June. The ONLY thing that keeps me going is knowing I've come so far to not stop now. I don't want to have to go through this all over again, and instead, just make it a habit.
