Doughnuts and Studying, oh my!

Whoo, did you hear?! It's National Doughnut Day! Of course I stopped on my way home from the gym today for my favorite: a maple bar! I picked up a few more to share with the kiddos. Doughnuts are my FAVE!

Excuse brevity in this post; I'm taking a short break from reading and studying to update ya'll, finally. Posting regularly will be back starting Monday (when we're switching internet providers). Fingers crossed Time Warner is a little speedier than Clear.

I'm at my local Barnes & Nobel (favorite spot!) enjoying some black tea with a little half & half and munching on a banana.

Shameless Selfie from the women's bathroom on campus

I'm loving my classes thus far! (Summer term started this week). I'm so excited with my major, and for the first time in a long time, I feel like my life really has some direction, and that the path I'm going down is going to be so worthwhile. Who knows, I might even make a real difference in a few peoples lives one day! I bounced around from major to major for a long time, until kind of stumbling upon Social Work. The perfect middle between Teaching and Psychology.

And the cherry on top: I couldn't believe Tarleton offered a program at Texas A&M - Central. Right in Killeen!

And so far, so good. The new campus is GORGEOUS. My professors are incredible. I'm taking a full-time schedule this summer, 2 10-week classes, Intro to Social Work and Social Welfare. Looking over the syllabus, I see a lot of research and some pretty heavy writing in my future.

I'm back to doing pull ups in the gym. Goodness, how I missed them! Look at this wee hand-rip. Awww, so tiny it's almost cute.

Today's workout was a doozy (felt well-rested after a rest day yesterday).

45 minute Spin class
-then-
Skill: butterfly pull-up practice, 10 minutes
Strength: every 2 min for 10 min 6 hang squat cleans + 3 front squats, 95#
Metcon: 4 rounds of that glorious workout above.

Why the Medball Mile? Because you run each 400m with that awkward thing!

I might go check out some new gyms in the area tomorrow morning, or I might just head back on post and knock out a Hero WOD. The weekends are always good for those. ;)

Favorite Doughnut?
Who's your internet provider?
Last HERO WOD you survived?

  3. Last Hero WoD (and my first ever!) was Murph. I did a scaled version as my knee was messed up, so ended up doing 800m row, 10 reps of Cindy, another 800m row. At least I chicked all the boys who were doing the same scaled version! ;) It hurt so good.

  5. By far, an old Classic Cake doughnut! Can't get enough of them, it's a good thing I have a hard time finding them in groucery stores and that I don't ever go to bakeries lol. I think we have At&t.

    1. I was thinking of you today when I walked into my local HEB and smelled, you guess it, fresh baked classic cake doughnuts! It's a good thing you weren't with me! I resisted ... barely. Probably thanks to the huge protein shaker I'd just drank after my WOD and right before walking in the store.
