Balls with a Bite

You know, peanut butter is just the answer to all of life's questions. There is nothing that a spoonful of crunchy peanut butter just can't fix.

How about a ballful of peanut butter? Maybe even better.

I can't wait to share my Peanut Butter Protein Balls with you! They have this moist, dense, truffle-like, cookie dough kind of texture that's amazeballs. But of course, when I made them, I didn't measure a damn thing, so I have to tease you with photos until I make them again and post the recipe.

I will tell you now, buy yourself a Hugh Jass jar of crunchy peanut butter if you plan on making them!

They're full of protein, fats and a just a few carbohydrates, plus they're sweetened with Stevia. Perfect late-night snacking! I think I may have beat out my Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Quest Bars fetish.

Just kidding!

So, the last two mornings in the gym have been awesome sauce. Yesterday, I did a version of the Hero WOD Zeus (RIP)3 rounds of 30 reps of way too many movements to count. 47 minutes later, I was sweating to hard you'd think I did my WOD in the rain, and my legs were shaking so good they made Jello look bad.

This morning I focused a lot on strength:

A) Every 2 minutes for 10 minutes
6 hang power cleans
3 front squats
95#

B) Pause back squats x 20 @ 85#

C) 20 walking lunges in the back rack position @ 85#

D) 100 butterfly situps

E) 3 rounds of 12 kettlebell Figure 8's (1 pood) + 10 pullups

I picked up some books while studying at Barnes & Noble yesterday. It's embarrassing, being that girl in the self-help section looking at "Alive and Thrive: Life After Divorce" and "It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken." I much preferred the Christianity section, in the safe zone between Bibles and Joyce Meyer, free from dubious, judgmental stares and "those" awkward questions at the register.

As much as life sucks right now, I really have so much to be grateful for. And honestly, I'm happier now, even wading through all of this garbage, even with my future in a kind of precarious position, finances being tight, and the heartless way he's treating me, yes, even with all of that, I'm so much happier.

Yeah, that's mayonnaise. Oh, to be 16 again!

I've got a lot of people in my life keeping me smiling, keeping me laughing. I've feel more at home, at peace, than I have in a long, long time ... Everything happens for a reason, and I feel like I'm right where I'm supposed to be right now, as messy and chaotic as life is.

Phew, heavy subject.

And that's why I find my strength here these days.

And here ...

And maybe just a little bit here ;)

Froyo, like peanut butter, is always a good choice.

Look who I get to babysit! Furturds at their finest!

What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?

Last book you read?

  10. My favorite brand of PB is Skippy Natural (super chunk or creamy), but I've recently crossed over into the dark [aka more expensive] side and my new all-time fave is Woodstock Almond Butter, followed by Trader Joe's.

Last book? A historical fiction novel called "Promise Me This", and I'm currently re-reading "It Starts With Food."

I've never had a Quest Bar- I haven't found a GNC store yet, and I can't convince myself that ordering a few online is worth it yet.

I'm sorry to hear about your divorce, but glad to hear that you are happier now. I always love seeing all of the pictures of Elliot on Instagram!

  11. I can't say I know exactly what you are going through (nobody but you does) but I do want to reach out and say that I'm going through some really sucky, rough time right now also and you're not alone in trying to wade through. I don't have much to offer as far as advice, but I know that being with friends and family has helped tremendously, and so has taking a lot of pressure off of myself to "figure everything out right this minute". I'm trying to go with the flow for a while. Have a great Wednesday!

    Never tried a Quest bar.

I think I get Martha somebody's all natural peanut butter (just peanuts and salt).

  15. My heart goes out to you as I just went through a divorce myself; I think we are about the same age. It was "easy" because it was a dissolution and we weren't suing each other but it wasn't EASY. Know what I mean? I know you will come out on the other side happier - I sure did.

    Good luck, my friend!

  16. I actually stopped eating peanut butter a year ago, I fell in love with almond butter, but if Trader Joe's peanut butter is as good as their almond butter, I'd be in heaven, maybe one day I should try it lol. Hope all is well for you! Just keep you head high. In the end, it'll be on his conscious and not yours :)

  17. Been there done that, you will get through and be even stronger and happier. It sucks while you go through it, but I am so ever thankful I did. Big hugs! :)

  25. I agree with Unknown 9:47 above. My divorce at 28 was by far the hardest thing I've ever gone through. At times I thought I was literally going crazy. But looking back, I would go through it all again to get where I am now. Whatever the outcome, everything will be okay. I love your blog and it's the only one I read.

  28. Sorry you are going through a rough time. That bites! You look great though :) Working out is definitely the best therapy! Get it girl!

I usually get my pb @ Trader Joes. My favorite books are the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. Love Stieg Larsson's work. I'm on the second book right now :) I've never had a Quest Bar!!

  29. I also wanted to let you know that that feeling of being 'that girl', and any embarrassment you may feel, does go away. I remember it well and eventually you see these hardships as not something that defines you, but only something that happened to you. I promise it gets better.

I looooove peanut butter but I really can't keep it in the house because I just eat it with a spoon and it's gone in 2 days!

    Keep smiling :) x

  36. I've been reading for over a year now and I've seen you move from Texas to Atlanta and now back. You've grown a lot, experienced a lot and this will make you learn even more about yourself than you know. (Trust this gal... I've been through some shit too.) Lean on your friends and family, and know that we're out here supporting you, too. Take care.

  38. Courtney, I am so sorry to hear that you're going through a rough time at the moment, break ups are really tough. In Feb, my relationship of 5 years ended after I found out my partner had slept with someone. All I can say is that at the time I thought that was the worst day of my life, but now, even just a few months on, I can see it was the best thing that happened to me. Things will get better, time will move on, it will get easier, new doors will open, I promise. Keep your chin up and keep being awesome.

P.s. Whole Earth Peanut Butter with maple syrup. I'm obsessed.

    xx
