Primal Protein Pancakes, 13.4!

I have to get this published before 13.4 is announced this evening! Who is tuning in? Or should the real question be, who isn't?

What do you predict? I'm digging this guys take. I'm putting my bennies on an AMRAP. And some toe to bar, forealz. Things HAVE to get technical and a little more advanced here, really soon, to start breaking people off.

In other CrossFit news, Greatist.com interviewed Rudy, the mastermind behind The Outlaw Way. If you CrossFit, you need to read this article. You need to understand where CrossFit is going.

Today was a much appreciated rest-day for me. I woke up to no alarm, just the graciousness of my rumbling tummy, and set about making breakfast and brewing coffee.

I give you "Primal Protein Pancakes."

These beauties were delicious topped with a little melted nut butter and Applegate Turkey Bacon.

I think if you click on that image, you may be able to read that recipe. ;)

Macros for the entire recipe:
(yields 4 medium pancakes or 2 big whoppers)
375 calories
40g protein
10g fat
26g carbs
10g fiber
13g of sugar (all from the banana)

Not bad, not bad! I was full well past noon, and happily sustained through my entire dentist appointment this afternoon.

I love to smile, but am a little self-conscious of my imperfect teeth. In a few weeks, that's all going to change though. Yay!

Off to prep for tomorrow, and get ready to watch tonight's workout.

TEAM SPEALLER!

1. Who are you rooting for in tonight's workout?

2. Would you rather go to the dentist for a cleaning? Or the doctor for a physical?

3. Do you usually eat a big breakfast?

  1. I read that article and found what he said interesting. I think some of it was speculation, I mean, I don't think anybody knows exactly what Crossfit will become. Yes it's growing, but who knows how big.

Both guys are great but I was rooting for Spealler.

I'll take the dentist any day. I love to have my teeth cleaned.

I love to eat a big breakfast and make it my biggest meal of the day, but I've toned it back lately. I'm just keeping an eye on how much I take in. These pancakes def. look like something I could chow down on.

  2. Im a new follower. I love all of your pancake concoctions. They look so good.

I would rather have my teeth cleaned than a physical, though I dislike both of them. Im also super self concious about my smile.

  3. Yay Spealler was awesome. My husband and I just started CrossFit last weekend... I hate the dentist soooo much.

  4. The doctor for a physical!! I swear the dentist just like to poke my gums lol. Small, I lot of small meals throughout the day

  5. I would rather go to neither lol.
But I like smiling and want to make sure I'm healthy
so I go to both with a smile :)

I can't wait to try those pancakes

I'm now starting to have bigger breakfast! I use to just have a green smoothie but now shooting for 400cals for breakfast meals to
    keep me full until lunch!

    1. Good girl! I find that a breakfast of at least 400 calories really helps keep my satiety low through the entire day. If I try to eat less than that, my whole day falls apart, my blood sugar plummets, etc.

  6. I just finished up a 12-week session with a friend who is in training to be a Dental Hygienist. They use real people to practice on. I just finished my last appointment with her yesterday, so my teeth are probably in the best shape they can possibly be ever in my life (once I get these two teeny cavities filled, anyway. She can't do that part. I have to go to a "real" dentist. And pay for it.)

I hate doctors, though. Dentists even more. I avoid them when at all possible. I only went to her as a friend. I suffered through 5 appointments of scaling which is that loud, high pitched, screeching instrument they use to remove the calculus. Ugh.

These pancakes look amazing! I will be making these soon! Good luck these weekend when attempting 13.4. I have not done any of them since I'm only a month into Xfit, but will one day. I have no favorites...I enjoy watching all the athletes!

My breakfast is small because I'm not hungry in the mornings, usually a bit nauseous. I also work out about an hour to two hours after I wake up, so I'll have a small slice of banana bread or juice some carrots and fruit and drink it on the way to the gym.

Now, post-workout meals are always LARGE. Yay, food!

    1. YAY FOOD, I couldn't agree more!

My best friend is a dental hygienist, I was also a guinea pig for her while she was in school. :)

  7. I was team Spealler all the way! So happy he did great! I had braces when I was a kid, so dentists aren't my favorite. Although my teeth still aren't perfect... ugh! I guess I eat a pretty large breakfast... mushrooms, kale, ground turkey, and some grated parm... yum!

    1. I LOVE getting some meat in my meals first thing. Because of my schedule, it's so hard for me to do unless I want it eat it cold. Ewww.

  8. I am currently hooked on this TVP "proatmeal" recipe I stole from Sprint to the Table for breakfast & it rocks! @ the gym or @ the desk- I gotta have my mason jar of pumpkin goodness with my AM coffee :0) of course thats only meal #1 of the day....going to have to try my hand at your paleo bars this weekend- taking dessert to the inlaws for Easter!

    1. Sprint to the Table, that girl has a ton of crazy awesome - and very inventive - recipes! I'll have to check out TVP.

  9. Looks like you were right about the WOD! I predicted cleans and T2B, too... I just wish they were cleans without the jerk ;-) Good luck!!

I usually always have a big breakfast! Couple of eggs, few pieces of bacon, fruit with nut butter and a cup of coffee with Kerrygold. Love it!

  10. I've been blog stalking you for a spell, found your link through GPP's website. Although I do GPP and not Crossfit, there's enough in common that I find your posts interesting and your food to be most excellent.

I'd probably choose the doctor. I feel more violated getting shots into my gums than exposing my body parts or being prodded.

My breakfast depends on my morning. Most days it's just a protein shake on the way to the gym and herding kids to school. If i'm running I will eat an obscene amount of any or all of the following: oatmeal, greek yogurt with berries, toast and fruit. If it's been a really long night my friend Jack Daniels might be accompanying me on a breakfast date. Okay, not Jack. But it sounds so nice sometimes.

    1. Welcome! I'm a fan of GPP workouts when I have minimal equipment or am working out on my own.

Haha, Jack is always welcome at my table!

  11. Ever since I started CrossFit, (a whole 3 weeks ago!) I've been eating a huge Paleo breakfsst every morning, even on the days I don't train. My favorite breakfast starch alongside my 3 eggs, spinach, and protein shake are sweet potatoes! It's like having dessert for breakfast ;).

CrossFit is making me so STRONG! I had plateaued in weight training for a while, but now I am regularly squatting 130lbs. Extremely proud of myself because my max was 115.

I crossfit 3x a week and it is seriously the HIGHLIGHT of my day! Well, that and reading your blog!

    Thanks for sharing :)

  12. I too LOVE a big breakfast and totally agree it keeps my blood sugar in check & satiety high! I’ve been reading your blog for a looooong time (this is my first comment) and you have totally inspired me to try CrossFit. I’m a little intimated though as none of my friends will go with me  still I will totally be channeling your badassery  and hope I pull it off…

  13. I love breakfast, but I wouldn't say I eat a "big" one. Even when I eat big meals, I find myself hungry only a few hours later, so I try to keep my meals on the smaller, more often side.
