I don't know about you guys, but this weekend couldn't come soon enough!
I've been working my hiney off these last few weeks, and ugh, I am feeling it. I'm not only busy with work and a million (furry) clients and commuting all over Atlanta; but also dealing with my piriformis crap (seeing doctors, chiropractors, doing my own mobility), getting enrolled in school, finishing our taxes (yes, we file them ourselves), coaching at the box, and of course, trying to squeeze in a workout myself when I can.
All of this running around like a crazy person IS paying off though!
I don't want to say anything yet - but there are going to be some big, exciting, changes coming up for me in the next few months! It's taking every fiber of my being to stay patient!
I've just been going down my list, checking things off, getting everything in order ...
And the smile on my face is so big right now, my cheeks hurt!
Okay, so back to reality. Today was a rest day from the gym, so after sleeping in until a glorious 7am, I woke up to make myself an actual breakfast. Of hot, warm food. That didn't come out of a protein shaker or in the shape of a bar. Amazing.
Egg white "oats" whipped up in the microwave, fluffed with a fork, and topped with a tiny bit of Almond Milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Then, I microwaved frozen raspberries for about 45 seconds to create a simple reduction to use as a topping. Alongside my favorite honey roasted fresh ground peanut butter from Whole Foods, it was amazing! Unsweetened coconut flakes just for a little added "crunch".
Then it was off to work, and later off to the vet with my Elliott boy.
It was time for his Rabies vaccination, a heartworm test, and sadly, his anal sacs were due to be expressed. If you don't know what that is, good for you. If you do, it sucks. Elliott has always had a problem with his, so we have to take him in to the vet regularly to have them expressed manually.
My vet warmly describes it as "getting out the poo juice."
Speaking of poo ... My husband is on this cleanse, as of this morning.
I think cleanses are a little silly when people try to do them for fat loss. I do think he's been having some other issues, so hopefully this helps him "reset" his system.
Me? I'm just all about eating as cleanly as I can. Some people have amazing will power. I'm working on strengthening mine. Diet is such a long term investment, yet food is such instant gratification, learning to say "no" has been more challenging than hitting PR's at the gym.
I know I still could be doing a LOT better job. But it's just like the saying goes, I'm getting a little stronger every day. Learning to make smarter choices. Learning to say no to certain foods. Learning what my triggers are. I just purchased The 21-Day Sugar Detox from Diane Sanfillipo. Not that I'm going to do it for 21 day's, but I will definitely be following some of her recipes and eating more of the right kinds of carbs, etc.
My performance in the gym is not what it used to be (back in Texas), thanks to injuries, lack of support, and a demanding work schedule, but, I think it has allowed me to instead dial in my nutrition and learn a little bit more about proper mobility and body maintenance.
I'm sad that I'm not in any kind of CrossFit-shape to be a serious competitor in the Open this year. But, that's what next year is for, right? I think I'll be in a better place in my life in a few months, and I'll be back to my old, happy self.
I am so ready to be happy again!
