Today's workout
My first time doing Diane this morning. As prescribed. Did all of the 21 HSPU unbroken but kipping. I really wanted sub 5, but my sore ass cheeks were just not feeling those deadlifts. Thanks, Curtis P.
After a couple minute break, we set up for "Weston," a Hero WOD.
My girls scaled it to 500m rows, but I kept it at the 1000m. Not easy. That's a lot of rowing. It really was the most challenging part of this workout. The waiter walks and farmer carries were just fun! I tried to maintain a 2:15/500m, and did for the first 4 rounds, then fell to 2:19/500m on that last round.
Playing around afterwards. :) Always room to have a little fun.
It was a Nano party! Looks like someone didn't get the memo ...
What was the last Hero WOD you did?
This week we've done two, "Santiago" and "Weston."
What new pair of shoes do you want for the gym?
I am all shoe'd out! I have three new pair of shoes and think I am set for a bit. I wouldn't mind a pair of Uggs though.

so cool!
ReplyDeletedo you have any tips for learning how to kip HSPU? I've slowly gotten better at doing them strict - maxed out at 10 recently, which is awesome progress for me - but my attempts at kipping have been totally hopeless so far. Would love to hear your tips!
I learned to do them strict as well, and I have to say, that is the best route to go. How are you with kipping pull ups? I find that the mind-muscle connection is crucial - understanding how your hips power the movement versus your arms/shoulders helped me finally understand the "kipping" HSPU.
DeleteI'm going to see if one of my girls can video the movement I practiced to learn both the kipping pull up and handstand.
U gals look hardcore...
ReplyDeleteI'm so skittish about doing handstands that a HSPU feels like a far-off dream for me. I haven't done a Hero WOD yet- my box does them on Saturdays, and I somehow always have something going on. My boyfriend just got me a new pair of athletic shoes for our anniversary a few days ago, though- Nike Flex Supreme running shoes.
ReplyDeleteAny advice on becoming less skittish with handstands?
Yes, practice doing headstands. Totally different, and a little more "supported" especially against the wall. Spend time in ANY kind of modified inversion to get more comfortable upside down. ;) Have you tried using straps/bands yet to set up for a HSPU?
DeleteHow do you use straps/bands for that?
DeleteFor Christmas I got my first pair of weightlifting shoes, I got Nike Romaleos II. I'm excited to break them in!
ReplyDeleteThe Nano's look cool, I might get my husband some for his birthday coming up.
Last Hero WOD I did was "J.T".
21-15-9
HSPU
Ring Dips
Pushups
Your arms and shoulders look so buff. Is that from doing Crossfit WOD's or extra stuff on the side too?
Just curious, Do you think you'll do another Wendler's 5/3/1 strength cycle soon?
I've never done J.T. I know, right? How can you be a CrossFitter and have never done JT? ;) How'd you do? I have a hard time kipping ring dips still, and they're slow going doing them strict.
DeleteAnd these arms and shoulders are 100% CrossFit.
I'm thinking about another cycle of Wendler's when I get home.
AWESOME job!! Super impressive WOD times.. I'm still in my first month of CF and looking forward to how awesome I can be in the near future ;)
ReplyDeleteAh, the newborn CrossFitter! You have so much FUN coming your way! :) Congrats on getting started, that's really the hardest part.
Deletei just got a pair or bright coral mizunos for running, but i think i need to get some bright neon ones just for walking around and weights ;)
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the bright BLUE color? I die! <3
DeleteI did Chelsea yesterday. Still working on getting all the rounds in but I love a WOD with rules. Its a game!
ReplyDeleteCrossFit is just kind of one big game, isn't it? ;)
DeleteDiane and Weston in one day...you're awesome. I did Rahoi today which made my legs into jelly! And I seriously need to get myself a pair of nanos asap.
ReplyDeleteHi there. I also did Curtis P recently and thought I would die! I wanted to ask if you had any suggestions for rowing? I know you use your legs but should I be pulling back all the way? I want to improve my times. I have tried a few crossfit shoes and my current Nanos are awesome!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work on your blog!
Your blog is too cute! I did Crossfit for a while until I moved to Dallas and it was such a FUN place to get some solid workouts in! And my dog chewed up my favorite pair of running shoes today so I get to make a shoe shopping trip soon :) I've always been an asics girl for running but I've been eyeing those mizunos for months!
ReplyDeleteI am OFFICIALLY hooked on your blog! You are so so so strong! SHOE'D OUT?!?!? NOT POSSIBLE!!!
ReplyDeleteI found your blog over at HRG and I can already tell I'm going to love it :)
ReplyDeleteI am in the Army as a 2LT and my boyfriend (hopefully soon to be fiance if things go how I'd like!) is finishing up school before he accepts his commission. It's so nice to see and relate with others who understand the stressors of training and deployments, etc.
This WOD is one that I will have to try. I don't belong to an actual box but luckily my gym has many accomodations to do CrossFit!
Love the fist pumping going on in that picture! Representing the good ol' dirty Jersey! ;) Where are your shorts from?? The colors are fab.
ReplyDeleteWe did Murph (my first ever!) on New Years and I loved it!My goal was under 50:00 and I finished in 48 so I was very happy!
Funny that you posted on Hero WODs, my crew and I just did "Adam Brown" yesterday and it was awesome! Finished right under 34 minutes, I think. I really am loving my Nike Free V2s, so I'd love to get another pair of those. That said, the Reebok RealFlex looks pretty sweet.
