Flex Friday

It's the first official Flex Friday! Without further ado, let's show you the madness, oh my, the muscle!

Today's sweat session:

Bench press: 95 x 6 - 115 x 5 - 120 x 2 (125 fail)
I'm so close to a body weight bench. Must keep working on this.
I finished with 3 drop sets at 95 pounds for 8 reps.

Back squat: 20 reps at body weight (125#)

Metcon: Hero WOD "Victoria"

Time: 24:07, as prescribed.

 Not happy with this time. This WOD was extremely hard for me, and doing it alone, much less. Much harder than it would have been for me when I was training in Texas. I have lost so much of my conditioning since moving to Georgia. It's saddening, disheartening. Instead of getting depressed about it and throwing in the towel, I realize I'm doing the best I can with what resources and time I have available to me.

Let's be honest, the motivation just isn't there like it used to be. The fun isn't there like it used to be. The time isn't there like it used to be. My husband was away training, I had no responsibilities, and wasn't working. I was in the gym all morning. Not a luxury I have these days!

CrossFit is fun because of the community. I haven't found a community yet like I had in Texas, and I also can't find the same enjoyment in working out alone that I had working out with my girls in Texas.

It sounds like a bunch of excuses to me, alas, that is the truth. Where I used to look forward to meeting my friends for a WOD, I don't have that anymore. Now, it's forcing myself out of bed every morning, to suck up the pain alone. 

But hey, I'm still doing it, even if I'm doing it a little bit slower.

I was a sweaty beast.

 They fit like a glove! (They may be 1/2 size too large, but I'm thinking this might be good for running. ;) Can't wait to break them in tomorrow at the gym.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
I love Moose Tracks and Butter Pecan! I found a new flavor from Edy's, it's a Butter Pecan sweetened with Splenda and churned with 1/2 the fat. Only 120 calories per serving and 3g of sugar! But, I love Blue Bell, too, it reminds me of Texas. <3

    About not having the motivation...
    I find it harder to get motivated working out at home. Other people help push you on. My husband and I used to do Crossfit together to see if we could beat each other time-wise. Now that we have a home gym only one of us can be on the bar at a time. It's nice but it takes some fun out of it.
    And about time...
    Just wait until you have a baby, if you plan to. I could spend 2-3 hours working out but it's just not going to happen with a little one. It's like you said, you have to do the best you can.
    I hope you can find that community you're looking for :)

    1. I started CrossFit working out alongside my husband. He motivated me so much; keeping up with the boys always does! Can you guys save for another barbell? They're not too expensive! And that's a great investment, in my mind. ;) I would LOVE to train clients out of my garage.

      Haha, I can't wait to have a baby. Honestly, to take my mind off of the gym would be nice.

  2. You inspire me to join crossfit..... but it is a bit pricey... maybe one day lol
    also question.. i see you always have healthy snacks from trader joes.
    i havent been there before and was planning on going when i get back from vacation. Also going to try to do Clean eating. What would you say are some great prodcuts to get there?

    1. CrossFit is spendy. I don't belong to an affiliate, but I am CF-L1 so follow my own programming. I would highly recommend trying out at least the foundations class, so that you can get a feel for the movements, and incorporate more functional training into your current routine.

      Trader Joes, everything is wonderful. It's not any cleaner than anything else, but they do have more organic and natural options. I love their shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, shredded brussels sprouts (you can get those anywhere though). I love their sunflower seed butter, too. You can't go wrong with $2 Chuck! More like $3 now ;)

  3. I also had the opportunity to honor Victoria Soto.. and yes, it was rough workout, for everyone. But isn't that the point? I am less concerned about my time/how difficult it may have been and instead incredibly thankful that I was able to finish and walk away alive and well, while honoring an incredible woman. Please don't be so hard on yourself!!

  4. You're always looking great! You definitely inspire me to keep going with Crossfit (which I will do Monday morning, assuming I can actually breathe again). I've had to skip it the past two days because of a darn cold.

    I've never won a blog giveaway, but that certainly doesn't stop me from trying! And do I have to pick one? Because seriously, ice cream is wonderful.

  5. Hey Courtney, I'm not sure where you are in Atalanta but I have a friend who is a coach at an affiliate that just opened in Atlanta, CrossFit Identity. You should check it out sometime, my friend's name is Ryan. :) I'm not too familiar with Atlanta since I am from Indiana but on the map it looks like it is on the near Northeast side, not far from Midtown. :) Hope you find the community you are looking for!! :)

    I just had the "favorite ice cream flavor" discussion today. I settled on Rocky Road. I love the carmel throughout. :) I also love a good vanilla bean. Yum!

    1. Thanks for the recommendation! There are so many CrossFit boxes, a lot that are within 5 miles of my house! At the moment, I just can't justify the $200 monthly price ...

  6. Take that back, after further review CrossFit Identity was CrossFit Northeast Atlanta, but I am pretty sure they just opened up in a new space. :)

  7. You look great and fit! Im dealing with making time for the gym since work is so busy and feel so tired but when i do go i give it all i got. I like your tennis shoes and i wanted to know where did you get your shorts? You look cute! Have a safe and great weekend
