Letters to my Lovers

Dear Netflix,

I love you. You have saved me hundreds of dollars on Redbox late fees (I could never get those things turned back in on time), and On-Demand movie rentals. But, you need to get with the program. Army Wives Season 6 wrapped up a WHILE ago, and I'm still waiting. Just saying.

Dear Hulu,

I love you, too. Don't get all jealous of Netflix, you're pretty amaze-balls, okay? But please, why do you only have three episodes of The Playboy Club? It aired months ago! Don't be a tease, you little whore, cough up the rest of the episodes.

Dear Showtime,

You suck. You're expensive and I don't have cable so I can't watch the only show on your damn channel worth watching, Homeland. I'm stuck with bootlegged copies aired online. 

Dear Mike Tomlin,

Please don't play Big Ben tonight. I know you'd really like to win the AFC North title, but wouldn't it be better to get a healthy spot in the Playoffs? Let him rest and get back to 100%.

Dear Last Chance Thrift Shop,

Thank you for being the last cheap thrift store. Goodwill sold out. You're kind of scary, creepy, cold and that one vagrant covered in plastic wrap that smelled like pee probably should have been kicked out today, but damn, the people of Decatur drop of some really awesome clothes here. 

I needed to get one last, long training session in before the Half this Thursday. Instead of running (why would someone train for a race by running?) I decided to break it up.

I ran 2 miles at a 9:13 pace, did 60 minutes of spin (super tough class), and jumped right back on the treadmill for another 3 miles at a 9:33 pace. Per my heart rate monitor, I burned 883 calories, had an average heart rate of 78% and a max of 92%, for a total time of 1 hour and 52 minutes. 

The spin class in the middle of the run totally broke up the monotony or pounding the pavement, and I am confident this little ticker is ready for the Half coming up this week. I'm not going for a PR, I'm not even sure I'll run with music, I'm going with one purpose: to earn my turkey!

Running today was made a little more awesome sauce thanks to these new buds. Hella bass! Not that I'm chatting on the phone while I run, but I could if I wanted to, thanks to the built-in mic feature. 

I enjoyed a heaping bowl of custard oats when I got home. I hope I never get tired of this dish, custard oats are just the bomb dot com. In this bowl: 1/2 cup gluten free oats cooked in water with 2 egg whites + banana + toasted pecans + topped with Fage 0% greek yogurt.

After a shower I made a bee-line to my favorite nail salon. It's been months since I had a pedicure, and my feet needed some attention. I hate being that girl, but dammit, I thought the bottle was dark blue, not black. I decided to just keep it, rather than make her take it off and re-paint it. Yay or nay? 

I made a stop at the thrift store for some throw away clothes for the race this week, and also came across this cute little blazer. It needs a trip to the dry cleaners and the shoulder pads need to come out, but for $12, I think it's a score!

I've never been much of a thrifter, but Atlanta is full of really cool second-hand shops. I think I am becoming one ...

Dinner tonight was an egg-stravaganza! Egg whites, corn salsa, heaping handfuls of spinach, cheddar cheese, tomatoes and green salsa = giant food baby. 

What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
It's just the husband and I this year, and I actually have to work.  I don't feel like cooking all out for the two of us, but also don't feel like spending an arm and a leg eating out. 

Have you ever had a great thrift store score?
I have to say, this blazer may be my first.

  3. Target has turkey breast on sale for 99cents/pound. That could be a better size if you're cooking for 2. Just found your blog and I'm loving it. Good luck on your half!
    From you previous post, I am the absolute poster child that running does not get you in shape. I've run 10 marathons and 2 ultras and never lost a pound or got more toned. I've added WODs a month ago and can already see more definition and feel stronger. Running definitely gets you in cardiovascular shape though. At this point I only run for the pure pleasure of running - it's a social thing with my girlfriends. :)

    I so want to be one of those people who finds steals at thrift stores but I usually can't find anything. I did find a great pair of shorts this past summer though:)

  5. I'm a fellow military wife and it will be only us on Thursday as well. We're planning on a nice run in the morning then maybe hittin up an afternoon movie. Oh the joys of thanksgiving for military families :)

  6. Love the blazer you got. For being a thrift store find it's a good brand, in great condition, and for $12 u can't beat it. I enjoy thrift store finds sometimes. I've got some Express pants, Lucky jeans & many other name brand clothes for cheap, that look new. There's nothing wrong with that. Imagine how much u can save. Also, I love your blog. It's giving me motivation to get back into shape. I have an injured back so I have to be a little careful on what I do. I have about 3 months b 4 my husband comes home & I want to look like a new person. I don't need to lose to much weight, maybe 10 lbs. so I can fit back into my sz 5. I mainly need to tone back up. If u have any suggestions that would b great. Also I don't think the black toe nails look bad at all.

  7. LOVE the blazer I can't believe you found that in a thrift store!!! There are tons of second hand clothes stores here in az I love. Actual goodwills on the other hand - usually don't have much to offer!!
    I also find great deals at Ross....Sometimes better prices than the second hand stores!!!

  9. Dumb question: When cooking your custard oats, do you cook the water, egg whites & banana together *and then* top it with pecans and greek yogurt? I love oats for breakfast and really want to make this! Thanks!!

    1. Hey Amy! Not a dumb question at all! I use pasturized egg whites, so they're safe to eat raw. So, I cook the oats and the water together with the banana for about 2 minutes (my oats are old fashioned and take a while), stirring every 30 seconds. Then, I add in my egg whites and just stir it in and let it sit for about 3-5 minutes, the egg whites kind of cook in the oats and create this delicious creamy concoction!

      If I'm using a whole egg, I crack the egg into the oats when they're about half-way through cooking, then pop it back in the microwave for about 30 seconds, stir, repeat until cooked.

      I hope this make sense! I have been meaning to do a blog post on this!
