CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Course

Happy Monday!

I have to keep this short and sweet, I have some puppies waiting on me for their afternoon walk!

Mine included. :)

This weekend I attended the CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Course hosted by CrossFit Downtown - Atlanta Barbell.

If you check out Mainsite today, you will see all of the Level 1 certifications that happened over the weekend, and our group shot is in there. Right after Fran, no less.

The course was amazing. Two days of pretty intense lectures, hands-on skill work, demos, question and answer sessions, and a written test to top it all off. I walked away with a brain full of knowledge and this t-shirt, dubbed "The Thousand Dollar Shirt."

A little wrinkly, as it was stuffed at the bottom of my backpack all weekend. Whoops.

Representing my CFM gear on Day One; and my new Scuba Hoodie on Day Two. I know, I'm supposed to be re-capping my weekend, and instead I'm talking about my new Lulu's. #fail

I'll know whether I passed the test in a week or so. Right now, the course holds about a 70% pass rate. There were about 6 other folks who showed up just to re-test at the end of the Day Two. Jeeze, I hope I am not one of those people ...

Highlights of the Course:
  • A huge focus on the fundamental, foundational movements, ie: why we don't program bicep curls, why we do kipping pullups (along with strict, everything in moderation) and why we program heavy days and met-cons and everything in between.
  • CrossFit is about community.
  • CrossFit is not about The Games.
At the end of the weekend, I was enlightened and refreshed. I did Fran for the first time (in 4:51) and learned an awesome transition for the muscle up, and made a few new friends.

Top two Fran finishers. Ivey killed it in almost sub 4 minutes! Beast.

Foam rolling after my 100 burpees on Saturday. Oh, you thought that I wasn't playing along? Oh no! I've done 400 burpees so far this month! (I still have to do today's ...)

Ladies restroom wall at Downtown ATL, har har.

Meet my new friend Sally! We're having slumber parties at her house for the next two weeks while her mom is away.

I hope everyone has a great week!

1. Did you run a race over the weekend? Do anything CrossFit related?
2. Are you a Lululemon fan?

  3. Lulu Lemon fan -yes, money to afford it- no. I didn't do CrossFit this weekend because the only session my Box holds is on Saturday morning at 10:30 and I was catching up on some sleep. I really wish they had Sunday sessions cause it'd be a great kickstart to the week, but oh well. Maybe I'll try to start some at home WOD's, any suggestions on a good one? (and I don't mean 100 burpees- you're crazy!)

    1. Ask your owner if a Sunday class is an option? Maybe there are enough members who also want that option!

  4. Nice! And congrats on your fran time! Can I ask about the muscle up transition you learned? It's taken me many months, but I can now string 2 together consistently. But I'm always trying to find ways to improve from the knowledge of others who can do them well.

  5. I am soo jealous of all the pups you get to hang out with! Too cute.

I love my Lululemon gear as far as how it looks and functions, but even though I take good care of it (gotta treat that shh like gold since it costs as much) it always seems to reek of sweat, even freshly washed. Just me?

    1. I find myself mending a lot of my Lulu's! I think I take really good care of them, too, alas, I think the quality is starting to dwindle. :( The new silveresence material is supposed to help with that "stink" smell ;)

  7. Hi, I've just discovered your blog and have been trying to play catch up. I'm so jealous of all the dogs you get to hang out with - are you a professional dog walker? I think that would be great.
I didn't run a race, but ran 9 miles since I'm at the start of a new marathon cycle. I did a WOD today. My gym isn't CrossFit, but seems similar and is called Go Primal here in Gainesville, FL. My glutes are already so sore that I'm scared for tomorrow (in a good way).
    Good luck with the results,
    AmyD

  10. I just came across your blog. Not gona lie, pretty cool!! I noticed on one of your last blogs you mentioned how CF left a bad taste in your mouth. So what made you want to become a cross fit trainer?
