Doggone Fun

The last few days have just been too doggone fun!

I am just as crazy about dogs as my dog looks in the photo.

Elliott has been making new friends! As a rescue, he's come so far, learning how to socialize and "share" me. He's a little protective and tad bit jealous - he takes is so personally if another dog gives me kisses. Like, he's offended I receive them!

What a nut.

Watching the debate last night. Elliott is still undecided.

Lucky boy got to come into the box with me this morning and watch me do my thing! Well, both of my things. Workout and coach.

Chalk, chalk, chalk ... Courtney was here. RIP.

I sweat a lot, so I really have to use a lot of chalk. Hand prints all over from today's WOD's.

7 rounds for time:
3 power cleans @115#
6 hand release push ups
9 knee-to-elbows
12 walking lunges
Time: 9:58, Rx

Then ...
50 turkish get ups
4 burpees after every 4th get up.

A lot of TGU's and burpee's later ...
Time: 23:14

TGU weight: For the first 16 I used a 26# bell, for the remainder I scaled to an 18# bell. Form first!

I also coached my first class today (there was another certified coach there, shadowing me). I had to coach deadlifts and the Turkish Get Up on the fly. I think I did pretty well and got great feed back from the members; but I think that's because Elliott was there to entertain and encourage with lots of puppy kisses.

My certification is coming up soon. Stoked!

Almost as stoked as I was about eating this amazing chicken and fig salad I threw together at Whole Foods.

Yum! Figs, broccoli, pineapple, kale, garlic, spinach.

Baby got back.

  1. Your dog is SO cute!!! I wish I could take my dogs... but they are just WAY too rambunctious! Congrats on the coaching, it sounds like you are doing a great job!

    1. I am so lucky that the owner is cool with it. She's even sweet enough to let him in the Christmas photo as our mascot, haha!

  2. My dog is the same way with other dogs giving me kisses! And socializing with other dogs in general! He is the same size as your dog- I always thought it was a little dog complex :)

  3. I love that you are a proponent of form first. I have been seeing some ugly stuff from coaches who are afraid to scale because of...ego I guess. My cert is Saturday!!! study study...

  5. I am actually getting certified over the weekend! Obviously, I am so excited but also a little nervous. I can't wait! Your back looks ahhhh mazing.. and speaking of chalk and sweat, I was a mess after yesterday's power cleans and pull ups. Someone joked I had been messing with the bag of powdered doughnuts haha!

    1. THAT IS TOO FUNNY! I am going to use the powdered doughnuts term from now on. Probably because they're my favorite!

  6. Hi Courtney! I've been reading your blog for the past couple months (I liked it so that much I went back to the beginning and read the whole thing!), and I just wanted to tell you that you have inspired me to really step up my fitness routine. I began running in May, and a CrossFit box just opened up in my town a few weeks ago. I have absolutely fallen in love with the intense WODs and learning how to properly lift weights. I would have never even known what CrossFit was if I hadn't stumbled onto your blog. I really needed some inspiration and motivation, and I have found it here. Thank you for creating such an awesome blog! Congratulations on coaching your first class, by the way!

I also wanted to pass on an article I found today. You can download the book "Quantum Paleo" by Dr. Doug Willen for free over the next few days on amazon.com. I thought you and fellow readers may be interested. Check out the article at: http://www.daimanuel.com/2012/10/17/quantum-paleo-is-free-for-the-next-5-days/

  7. I'm a shady lurker (have been for a LONG time) but just had to say, your back looks great! Love your progress. And kinda glad Texas made such a great impression on you. Sad I never got to meet you while you were here!
