Power Cleans, Power Eats

The husband is on leave for the next week and a half, so we had the chance to get our WOD on together this morning. I still miss my girls at Fort Hood, but I do love throwing down with my hubba bubba.

We were at CrossFit Midtown today. Guess who picked up a sweet pair of tall socks and a tank top? This girl! Love me some box gear.

The WOD
Strength: 4x5 deadlifts
Metcon: 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 of power cleans (115#) and hand release pushups 

I worked up to 180# on the deadlifts and finished the metcon in 8:40.

While the Husband is on leave, he wants to check out all of the boxes in ATL. I think we were so deprived while living in Killeen, it feels like a CrossFit smorgasbord around hurr. I think it's great networking for him as a Recruiter, so I am willing to tag along as he visits box to box and maybe finds the one he thinks will be a good fit for him.


After the WOD we were on a mission to find the elusive PB2. We stopped at Publix on Ponce - fail! Whole Foods on Ponce - fail!

Lunch was a pretty epic win though, if I must say so myself.


I could get used to having a Whole Foods just 10 minutes from my casa. I could not get used to my much skinnier wallet, or much thicker waist ...  


I sampled the Dairy Free Lime and the Cookies and Cream. Gelato is the bees kness!


I have never had a macaroon before (I know, call me an alien), but damn, I had no idea what I have been missing. If I had to be stranded in the desert and could only take one thing with me, I would leave the water and gorge on macaroons. At least I would die in Heaven.

Looks like I'll be ordering my PB2 online ...

What's your favorite things from Whole Foods? It's a relatively new store to me, so point a sister in the right direction!

  1. I'm visiting the USA for the first time in October and I have to say that going to Wholefoods is pretty much near the top of my "To do" list while I'm there, can't wait! :D

  2. Publix on Ponce is pretty much the sketchiest Publix I've been to. A close second is the Publix on Piedmont nearby (used to live right behind it; it smelled like fried chicken in the morning). I don't know if Trader Joe's has PB2, but there's one on Monroe and 10th (10 blocks north of Publix on Ponce).

    I don't go to Whole Foods much because I'm up by the 75/575 split and our closest one is in Sandy Springs, but they have an amazing less-than-$4 cheese bin that has little scraps of the nice cheeses in a size that my husband and I can actually finish without having a wine and cheese party.

    Anyway welcome to Atlanta! I have friends at CFATL although I've never been there myself, and they love it. Also if you want to try out gymnastics in a real gym sometime, I'm on the Georgia Tech gymnastics team and we welcome crossfitters. Our coach goes to Crossfit HD in Chamblee, our captain was on the CFATL regionals team, and I am at Crossfit Marietta.

  3. Whole Foods is amazing! Some of my favorite things to buy are the fresh ground almond butter and coconut flour!

  4. Ok so, power cleans today for me too. We did 3 rounds:
    25 power cleans (75)
    25 ghd
    25 weighted sit-ups
    200 m run

    A little crazy right? My trainer wanted me at 95 on the cleans but looking at the reps...I politely declined. 10, 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 at 115 seems more reasonable...

  5. I love their sushi! They have fun fruit sushi and plenty of traditional types as well. For a splurge, I sometimes eat the multi-colored pita-type chips they have. They're usually near all the prepared foods. I'm a sucker for their salad bar everytime.

  7. Whole Foods......awwwww. I love everything there! Except for the prices. The grass fed meats are great. (dry aged and grass fed..yum)
    When we don't feel like cooking, there is always the hot bar, and salad bar, they rarely disappoint. yum yum.
    I am sorry you are having trouble finding your PB2. I know the WF at Merchants Walk has it....but that may be too far for you to journey out to. Also there is a store called Good Nutrition that carries it. Check there locations for a store in your area. I go to the one in Marietta off of Johnson Ferry Rd....near Whole Foods.

    1. Cobb County seriously needs another Whole Foods. It's so far away for me! I'm going to make a Merchant's Walk WF/TJ's pilgrimage tomorrow, though.

  8. There is a Kroger in Toco Hills (Lavista and N. Druid Hills) thats definitely not your average Kroger. It feels like a less expensive Whole Foods to me. You may want to try there as well for PB2. Although I haven't been there in a while, so can't really vouch for what they have!

  9. Hi Courtney, you are not the only one because i have never had a macaroon either. I love Whole Check! There is so many products that you can get there. i just tried their non fat ginger cookies and they were so good and chewy! That gelato brings me memories when i went to Italia!

  10. buying the PB2 off Amazon is waaaaay cheaper than Whole Foods (even with shipping). Whole Foods has a great gluten free naughties section...things like gf frozen chocolate cupcakes and tortillas :) For the gluten senstive, it's a nice cheat option when a girl's just gotta have a bite of cake or a softer tortilla!

  11. I LOVE Whole foods. They make a fresh salsa that is in the deli section it's called salsa brodie. Best. Ever. Also they carry a hummus out here (Colorado) that is black bean and lime hummus. It's amazing. As a splurge we get the chocolate triffle cup and split it. I dream about those. I second the cheese bin of little slices. It's heaven.

  13. Recently discovered your blog and I love it! Atlanta is fantastic. I lived there for four years while I was at Ga Tech. To add to the list of sketchy stores, Kroger on Ponce was often called "Murder Kroger". It can get pretty crazy at times.

  15. PB2 is so good. It has slightly a different flavor from regular peanut butter, but it's so good and I love the texture. Good stuff.

  16. I'm in atlanta right now, I actually dropped into a box in columbus georgia yesterday and people threre told me I should definetely check out an atlanta box since there are so many. Unfortunaly I wont have time (and had my a** handed to me yesterday so need a rest day), but glad there are plenty of choices for you... I hope you find one that can feel like home!

  17. Whole Foods...oooh so many things! The hot bar is awesome, I love the weekend breakfast/brunch option. The bulk section in general. And the fresh ground or grind yourself nut butter section! All awesome...but yea the prices are a bit much sometimes. Also what is PB2? Can't find it local here in CO and see a lot about it....

    3. Thanks Katie! Next time I am in Denver I will pick some up! I am in Fort Collins and the closest store to me is Max Muscle and its $12 for a 6.5 oz jar!! Whoa! I ordered it off netrition.com and with shipping I got 2 jars-chocolate in the name of research and what not- and shipping for the same price!
