I Love Jerks

It felt goooood to throw some weight around this morning. Nothing crazy, no PR's, just good clean fun. The first portion of the workout consisted of loading up the bar and completing 4 cleans, one after the other:
  1. High Hang clean (from the hip)
  2. Low hang clean (just above the knee)
  3. Power clean (from the ground to standing)
  4. Squat clean (from the ground catching it in the squat to standing)
I started with 95#, went through the 4 movements, and added weight for a total of 5 sets @ 95-105-115-120-125. The hang clean at 125lbs was BRUTAL. I was amazed at the difference from last week, when we cleaned off the blocks and I successfully lifted 130# three times.

Then 3x5 split jerk, mainly practicing form, not going for maximal loads. I have a terrible split. Nuff said. I made it up to 130lbs. BOOM. If only I looked as sexy as her.

Sadly, I felt a little more like this ...

What a cutie.

The metcon was all sorts of awesome. I am in love with rings, officially. I NEED to get myself a pair. Of rings, that is.

Megan emailed and asked
"What do you eat in a day? How do you fuel?"

I love food. LOVE food. Here's a breakdown of what I was loving today.

7am pre-workout: I had a gluten-free bar (about 100 cals) with black coffee sweetened with a few drops of NuNaturals Stevia.

10am post-workout: A scoop of protein powder (Optimum Nutrition Whey) with BCAA's

Noon: 1 Power Protein (Atkins) Waffle topped with 1 tbsp peanut butter and sugar-free (malitol) syrup with handful of blueberries + 1/2 cup watermelon

3:00pm: Met the husband for lunch. Freebirds Steak & Chicken Salad with no beans, no rice, no cheese, no dressing. Lots of roasted veggies, corn salsa, fresh lime juice, pico and tomatoes keep it juicy. I ate 1/2 of it and saved the rest for later (that my husband ate). I also enjoyed a glass of Dos Equis on draft.

5:00pm: Chocolate chip cookie given to me for free from Freebirds staff who saw me hard at work on the computer (they have free wi-fi!) So sweet. It was delicious.

6:30pm: Fruits and fats. About 1 oz toasted walnuts, blueberries, 2 kiwi and a cup or so of watermelon in unsweetened almond milk.

8:30pm 1 cup Chobani plain greek yogurt mixed with scoop of chocolate whey protein powder and 8 organic dark chocolate chips with a mug of fat-free ginger-cinnamon hot cocoa made in water.

In other exciting news, I finally had to stop at the gas station and fill up my new car.

You just fell off your seat, right?!

It was a momentous occasion, figuring out what side the fuel door was on.

Awesome. Awesome. We're getting about 300 miles on a tank of gas. I'm all eco-friendly smiles over hurr.

Do you weight train?
Do you use machines? Or are you the machine? Can I let you in on a little secret?
I don't know how to use one single machine in the gym.

It's not that I'm not willing to learn, it's just that those machines were developed for physical therapy patients. That's never really left a nice taste in my mouth.

Some of the cable machines seem intriguing and the squat rack. But I've gotten this far without having to use a single machine or perform a single crunch, so I must be doing something right.

  1. i don't know how to use any of the machines at my gym either! and i work there. and im a bootcamp instructor. haha :)
    that clean complex looks awesome!

  2. #130! Yay!! nice clean! I mean job :)

  3. I've used machines and done crunches but the more I'm out and about running or doing plyometric type work outs the more I'm starting to love those. :)

Keep up the good work, you're unstoppable! :)

P.s I noticed you didn't really have a "Dinner" meal, I don't mind oatmeal for dinner with a shake but I know when my hubby gets home..he is not going to want oatmeal with a shake. lol What do you feed your husband and yourself together?

    1. The salad I had was so filling! Normally I wouldn't have had such a large lunch, which would have left room for a little more real food, usually a protein and some greens.

  4. My friend put me on to your blog a couple of weeks ago. I've been looking forward to updates ever since. I dig the recipes. If you dont mind I may re-post them to my blog. I will credit and link to you of course. I'm a fan of the waffles. Seeing your hands all ripped up from that WOD was effin cray cray. You are a petite BEAST. Keep up the awesomeness!

    1. Happy someone else digs waffles as much as I do! Lets start a waffle revolution; share away! ;)

  5. I used to ONLY use machines... being a girl I thought that's what you were supposed to do! Now, if I even go to the gym I have a full membership at, it's only to use the treadmills, take yoga, or spin! I go throw my heavy weights elsewhere and feel SO MUCH MORE EMPOWERED doing that than doing 30 minutes of abs and having cables do my work for me... stay away from the machines girl! :)

  6. Haha I have no clue about the machines either! Why use them when you have CrossFit! Thanks for the day of eats! I always find it interesting to see how other CrossFitters fuel!

  7. Love that you shared what you ate in a day. I've been curious about that!!

  8. Don't want to sound like a creeper...but you are AMAZING! I was doing alot of HIIT type workouts- short and intense and I did see results in my petite frame. I even started getting real arm muscles lol and it helped me actually do real big girl pushups. Now I want to focus on gaining more muscle and have started lifting. I didn't know how to use those machines either, and I mainly use barbells/dumbbells/kettlebells for lifting (although I do go to the leg press and calf raising machines b/c my legs are skinny twigs. How many squats do I need to do before I can get legs like yours ;) Reading your blog everyday really makes me want to try Crossfit- hubby does some WODs at his fire station during shift but doesn't belong to any actually Crossfit box. Do you think it's possible to do Crossfit type WOD at a regular gym?

  9. What supplements do you take besides BCAA and Whey?

    1. Fish oil, Vitamin D, and B Complex. Casein protein in the evenings on a rare occasion.
