Five Things Friday

Thrusters from yesterday's WOD, "HelFran"

1. We will be moving to Conyers, Georgia. James has orders to work out of the recruiting station there. He has to report by the end of July, so it looks like my time at Ford Hood is coming to a close ... It's causing me a lot of turmoil. I'm sad. I'm really going to miss this place, the people, the post, the soldiers, everything. Words cannot describe ...

2. We are considering a DITY move, meaning we move ourselves and the military pays us (instead of the military coming in and moving everything for us. For our situation (no kids, not a lot of pets, a relatively small amount of furniture and new location that is only 15 driving hours away), it makes sense for us to do a DITY move - we stand to make a pretty penny.

3. In addition to my training certifications through NASM, I just signed up for a Personal Training Certification through the American Council on Exercise. I'm also contemplating a TRX certification in the future. They're holding a class in Kennesaw, GA in September.

4. My best friend got me the sweetest charm from James Avery, my favorite jeweler. I've been wearing it on a small chain around my neck. I absolutely adore it.

5. I picked up a new pair of Minimus from the PX on post. Gotta love tax-free shopping. I had to go 1/2 a size up from my WT10's, my duck feet felt a little crammed in the 8's.

I wore them today for the WOD, I liked them, but they're a little tighter than my other pair, I'll have to watch how I lace them.

Today: 60 min spin + 20 min AMRAP

AMRAP 20:
7 hang cleans, 135/95#
7 burpees
7 box jumps, 20/24"

9 rounds + 2 hang cleans, Rx'ed

What are your plans for the weekend? I have a 5k in the morning. A little bittersweet, it will be my last race on post I think before we move. *Tear

  1. Of course I looked it up and conyers is just about 4 hrs from nashville so that means we are meeting at a race in Atlanta or Chattanooga one day right?? :P

  2. Welcome (in advance) to Georgia! I moved here (Kennesaw/Marietta) 4 years ago from Houston and love it. There's a huge Crossfit following/culture/whatever you want to call it. There's even a restaurant in midtown Atlanta called Urban pL8 that has specifically paleo food (and just generally healthy awesomeness - they have awesome burgers).

    1. Thank you for the welcome! I was kind of nervous about a non-CrossFit communit - so this is good news! I'll have to look up the restaurant when we get into town, sounds delish!

  3. Ryan and I did a DITY from Mississippi all the way to Philadelphia. I thought it was cake but then again I didn't have to drive the U-Haul. It's a good experience if nothing else. We made around $2k.

Ah, moving. Such is the life of a military wife, huh? :)

    1. You did the full DITY? Haha, I think we're going to stop over halfway and stay at a motel, so my hubs will probably drive anyways. Phew!

  5. Ah that stinks that your husband got his orders to move. But that just means your friends will have to come visit you :) Hope your 5k went well! I ran a very wet, hilly and full of gravel half marathon this morning

    1. Good for you on the half! I used to run gravel roads when I lived in Oregon, don't miss rocks in my shoes too much. ;)

  11. Moving is so tough, especially for military families. (I grew up a part of one.) But don't you worry... Georgia will welcome you with open arms. And I second Annie - the CF community is big here. I have 4 within 5 miles of me! :)

  12. I just found your blog in a roundabout way from Pinterest. So inspiring! Welcome to Georgia! One of my best friends is a crossfit addict and goes to a crossfit gym in Decatur that she raves about constantly. Heck, even my dinky suburb has a crossfit gym on Main Street!

  13. Conyers!!! Those are bittersweet words! We left Conyers about a year ago to move to Canton, Georgia. I sure hope you love it as much as we did. You'll have to drop by a wonderful gymnastics gym called Rockdale Gymnastics, and the great bike shop, Contes! Very good memories in our 13 years in the area. Good luck with your move!
