400 Foot Climb, Beat That!

It's been a fun weekend! What about you guys? After knocking out midterms last week and getting a head-start on homework due this coming week, I was ready for some fun.

Like a little upside down fun.

Go Kelly!

Nah, not hard at all. ;)

On Saturday, MWR put on a Cardio Blowout event - a little teaser of all the classes they offer at the gyms. So, it was 20 minutes of Boot Camp/Crossfit, 20 min of Zumba, 20 min of Insanity and 20 min of Spin class. It was a great chance to check out some of the other classes, shake my booty, and meet some new instructors. (I am totally digging the Insanity class and the evening Spin class instructor!)

How weird is it that I am sore? That Insanity class is based around the DVD's with Shaun T. I've heard they are hard, but wow. My inner thighs are killing me!

My favorite way to eat oats: with protein powder and lots and lots of fruit and Fage greek yogurt. :)

Breakfast is probably my favorite meal of the day.

Right behind dessert, because the I make Vita Tops and smother them in 1/2 banana and melted PB2.

Glorious!

Drool, drool, drool.

This morning I met my spin instructor (who also happens to love Crossfit and is training for the Austin marathon) for a 5 mile, intense, hill run. At the midway point, we did our 20 burpees. Are you guys still doing your burpees?!

I checked out it on RunKeeper when we got home, we ended up climbing over 400 feet in elevation.

For some reasons, the hills don't look too bad on the way back!

Pretty scenery. Who knew that existed around here?!

Silly runner girl.

Yuck, armpit sweat. Story of my life. It was about 80 degrees and 75% humidity at 8am.

I treated myself to an Americano afterwards. 2 Splenda. That is all. ;) How do you take your Starbucks?

I made the yummiest scramble of egg whites + toms + spinach + turkey bacon and green bell peppers, with a side of Fage Greek yogurt.

My running buddy lent me the Paleo Diet for athletes. I'm trying to follow a 40/30/30 macro nutrient breakdown. 40% cabrs, 30 percent protein, 30 percent fat. Thanks to MyFitnessPal, I have been able to track how terrible I am at eating balanced meals. I seriously thought I had a pretty decent diet. Yikes.

Check out the new kicks. I know, I know. This is like my 4th pair of running shoes in the last month. I think these are going to be winners though!

Per my training schedule, I have a rest day tomorrow. ;) Thank the Lord, I'm tired.

Off to cuddle up and watch some Homeland!

Did you have a good weekend? Do you rest on the weekends or do you get in a workout?
I usually workout at least Saturday or Sunday, if not both. For some reason, getting workouts in on the weekends is just easier, and I have a little more time to enjoy them!

Are you training for an event?
I'm training for the Cowtown in Februrary. My first full marathon. Lawd.

  1. Where were you running today?? I spent 6 years at Fort Hood and did all of my runs around Harker Heights, Nolanville and Killeen!! =) You hear that Texas is so flat, but it's TOTALLY not! There are some monster hills!

  3. I was just reading about Paleo today...and am really intrigued by it, yet I don't know if I could ever do it. I don't eat any meat and I JUST had fish for the first time on Friday. Apparently you can't eat yogurt, oats, beans, or tofu. Pretty much my whole diet right there. I have to look into it more to find out what other options I have! Oh, and I hate eggs. Awesome.

I also love working out on the weekend but today was a rest day for me. I have to get least one day on the weekend in or I feel like a fat lazy pig, especially because the weekend is when all the treats come around!

PS I also hate burpees. Teach me how to love them (and eggs). K thanks.

  8. Hi, I'm trying to aim for those macros too. Except I'm not a runner (I do walking and some bodyweight strength moves). I am trying to figure out how to get those macros with a 2000-2200 calorie intake. I would LOVE your suggestions for meal plans and snacks on how to do that. Maybe I can email you to ask? Thanks.

  9. Hi,
My name is Alyssa, and I am a senior Sociology major at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. I am currently working on my thesis project, in which I am studying self-presentation in the blogosphere. I have selected five healthy living blogs to study, and yours happens to be one of them. My project is twofold in that I am going to do both a content analysis of the blogs I have selected, and I would like to interview each blogger. Would you be interested in participating in my study? Participation will require no more than an hour of your time, and interviews will be scheduled at a time that is convenient to you. Thank you in advance for your time!

    Sincerely,
    Alyssa

  10. Wow. I bet you're tired and ready for a rest day.

I have to try the one arm hand stand! I've been clean eating since March and feel great. I'd like to learn more about Paleo. I'm not training for anything right now. I ran Chicago in Oct and only have a few 5k races left for the year. Then, I try to figure out how to train for 12 half marathons in 2012 and a full in the fall.

Good luck with your training. I look forward to reading more about your journey.
