Paleo Meatballs

This morning's workout was a-ok, minus the fact the Functional Fitness center was packed to the rafters! There was no reason the gym should have been that full! So, until it cleared out a little, I went for a run to start off my workout. When I got back, it was a little better, but still not enough room or equipment for the prescribed WOD, so I pieced together my own after I warmed up.

Today's workout:

2 mile run, 15 minutes
1000m row @ damper 10, 9 minutes
10 dead-hang pulls x 2
50 24" box jumps
50 burpees
50 24" box jumps
25 burpees
10 x 10 x 10 115# deadlift
100m walking lunge
10 x 10 x 10 115# deadlift
100m walking lunge

I was out of there in less than an hour. Win!

I came home and made this hearty meal. 1 egg over easy + 1 small avocado + cherry tomatoes + cracked pepper + sea salt to taste. Love that runny yolk!

When I track my eating habits, I see just how junky they are. Let me fill you in on a day's worth of eats.

After showering, house cleaning and studying, I met hubs for lunch at Old Chicago because he loves their lunch buffet. Do you know how hard it is to watch him eat breadsticks and copious amounts of pizza? I maybe had a "bite" or two, and maybe I did eat a chocolate chip cookie but I didn't drink my usual beer. Baby steps! I had a side salad with no croutons. Though it came out tossed in caesar dressing, so I think the whole lunch was a Paleo fail.

I was a pretty good snacker today: blueberries, cherry tomatoes and some of my cocoa roasted almonds. Like I said, pretty good, until those dark chocolate chips and almond butter made it into my gluttonous mouth.

And some libations (whiskey girl right heremay have been enjoyed while preparing dinner ... which happened to be Paleo meatballs on a bed of salad greens.

Easy Paleo Meatballs:

1 lb. lean ground beef
1/4 c. almond flour
1 egg
3 cloves crushed garlic
fresh basil (don't be shy!)
dash of Worcestershire sauce
salt + pepper

I topped it with this awesome marinara sauce.

So while I've never been much of a "write down everything" I eat kind of girl, I'm sensing that it really would be helpful. I didn't realize how many times I said, "just this once" today ... and low and behold, just this once happened way too many times. Whiskey, chocolate chip cookies, oh my.

Maybe I really should write down everything I eat until I see that I can make smarter choices?!

If you're Paleo, how did you make the transition? Cold turkey or over time?

  1. Yeah I sometimes way over do it on the treats too! writing it all down helps but i don't find it sustainable for very long. I don't follow any specific diet either so I don't really have any "no" foods.
