(Sunday) Friday Fill-In

What is it like to be the wife of a service member? Well, if you civilian wives are curious: every Friday one of my favorite mil-spouse bloggers posts The Friday Fill-In. Here's a chance for you, to learn a little bit more about your favorite meat-eating blogger, me. :)

1. Do you think civilians, in general, understand the meaning of Memorial Day? No, unless they have someone in the service, or have experience a persona loss of their own (military or not), I don't think many civilian's honor the day like it should be. I think kids are just happy to have a long-weekend and parents are excited to have time to BBQ at the beach!
2. What are your plans for the Memorial Day Weekend?
We are doing an awesome Memorial Day WOD (workout of the day) tomorrow. Jenn, one of the Crossfit trainers, is going to set-up some kind of badass obstacle course for us to conquer. I'm sure there will be BBQing and boozing of some sort afterwards.
3. What skill/talent do you wish you had? submitted by The 3 Turners
I wish I could do the splits. I wish I could tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue. I wish I could do a kipping pull-up.
4. Which came first: the chicken or the egg? submitted by I Married Into The Army
The egg. Some ancestor, sister of the chicken, hybrid lizard and chicken, laid the first the egg that then hatched the chicken that we know today.
5. What is the best thing about your post (base)? The worst? submitted by Randomly, Robyn
Crossfit Centurion is the best thing! All of the Crossfit equipment available at various gyms. All of the pools. The free races. The free fitness classes, including the Crossfit classes. The commissary on Warrior Way that has great produce/meat and opens super early. Casey Memorial Library and no late fees on book returns. The worst? I have to say, I'm learning to love Fort Hood. It's become home. But, one disadvantage of such a huge post is that there is butt load of traffic.

I did a little sunbathing and swimming after yesterday's 5k. It was smoking hot by the time I made it to the pool, so I didn't stay long. My legs were aching and mmmm, did that sun feel like Heaven.

I didn't have a hot race yesterday. The race started at 7am, and I got there at 6:50. I was literally strapping on my iPod and double knotting my shoes when the gun started. I'd maybe had one too many glasses of wine the night before, didn't drink anyone water or eat upon waking, didn't warm up AT ALL, and didn't have any caffiene! I came in at 24:29 and took 2nd in my age group.

Have I done better! It was my 3rd race in 3 weeks. A half marathon 2 weeks ago, a 10k last weekend, and the 5k this weekend. I think I need to chill out on the running. I did place 1st in my age-group in both the half-marathon and the 10k.'

The shirts were cute. ;) I'm coming along with the racing shirt quilt.

What does Memorial Day mean to you?
Have a good one. Be safe!
