1. What are some things on your bucket list? (from New Girl on Post)
This is an awesome question. I want to become a certified yoga instructor, open my own practice. I want to open my own bakery. I want to learn to fly. I want to learn to scuba dive. I want to sky dive. I want to complete a marathon. I want to learn a second language (spanish) I want to travel the world and aid in some humanitarian effort. I'd like to become a journalist or broadcast journalist for the army.
Haha, I want, I want, I want!
2. How long have you been a MilSpouse and where have you been stationed so far? (from Raising Roscoe)
We were married in the beginning of June, so just about 5 months. Excited for that 6 month mark. These first few months have not been easy .... But as we are getting to know each other, we're figuring this marriage thing out. I just hope he has some patience with me. I had to move (and leave all my things behind) from Oregon to Texas. It's been an adjustment, to say the least. Trying to pick my life up and figure out what I'm doing with my life (while my husband is in the middle of his well-established Army career) has been a challenge. But I remember that life, even when it is challenging, must be celebrated!
3. What is a list of songs that sums up your life so far? (from Confessions of a Sailor’s Wife)
Brown Eyed Girl - My dad used to sing me this song as a little girl, and we used to listen to oldies in the car.
Unlike Me by Kate Havnevik. Just the lyrics, "There are no guarantees in life," remind me that no matter how challenging life is, it's alright. And it's going to be alright.
Citizen Cope - Let the Drummer Kick It. The song I always played at the start of my races, right before the gun goes off.
Citizen Cope - Sideways. This is the song that I fell in love with my husband to. I have many memories of laying in the sun, listening to this, thinking of him ... wanting him, missing him ...
K'naan -Waving Flags. The World Cup theme song and a tribute to one of the best sports ever.
Low Millons - their whole last album, really. I ran a 15k to this album, with the reality that I'd be seeing James in a matter of weeks.
CCR - Reminds me of my young adulthood
Phoenix - Reminds me of my little brother
4. What is your favorite kind of pizza?
Homemade crust, whole wheat of course, baked on a pizza stone, with all the veggies under the sun (even better if they're fresh from my garden.) Very little marinara and very little cheese, with blue cheese crumbles and sun dried tomatoes. I also remember a pizza I used to order with my sister, a chicken and spinach pizza with garlic dipping sauce! Chels, if you're reading this - who made that pizza?!
5. What are three good things in your life right now?
Let me count my blessings! There are maaaaany. My husband isn't deployed, he's sitting right behind me, in his jams, playing the new FIFA 2011 I bought him. I am in school full time and getting closer and closer to a degree. I am in the process of joining the military and did incredibly well on my ASVAB. I have a beautiful apartment. We just decorated and organized our bathroom. We scored the sweetest deal on our first piece of furniture, our badass and super sexy couch! That I have a job. That I have some super fun races coming up. My health. A husband that would give his life for me. I also love Texas Roadhouse for their bread rolls and butter. I am blessed to eat those, for sure. I am blessed that this restaurant and a plethora of others are just minutes away, saving me from a messy kitchen and cooking any night I'd like. I am grateful for my local library. For my husband's love. For my freedom. Freedom to do what I want. I am grateful that I don't work 900 hours a week to survive and my house is always pretty clean, quiet, neat and tidy. I am happy that I have a husband that volunteers to do the dishes! And when I make him hunny-do lists, he whips it out in no time. I am happy for the lillies sitting in my bedroom right now, that James brought home for me. I am grateful for my yoga practice and for the wellness center where I can practice Crossfit and row myself into blissful oblivion!
